Warren Bridge
Warren Bridge seen here beside the new alignment of US 191 is the most heavily used crossing in the far upper Green River. Although there are a few minor bridges upriver, none carry anywhere near the amount of traffic that the Warren Bridge Crossing does. For current webcam photo use link below:
As of late August, The Green River at Warren Bridge was running a wimpy 380-something cfs. Obviously, the river at this location can really kick up its heels during spring runoff!
Warren Bridge is actually near a modern battle field. Say what? Well, you see "The Narrows" on the map graphic above? That's the site of a proposed 1000 foot wide dam that would inundate one of the area's most pristine sections of The Green River. Self-centered downriver irrigators are livid that so much water "escapes" each spring without being put so-called beneficial use...AKA: growing hay crops for cattle. Wyoming's a state where officials would normally be ALL IN on something the Good Ol' Boyz want. But not this time. State official insist the cost-benefit ratio is ridiculously out of whack. Not only that but the reservoir would straddle the migratory route of the pronghorn...a MAJOR no-no. Meanwhile the irrigators group continue to fume, plot and scheme someway to get their way. It's an age-old battle played out around water resources of The West. Luckily, the fishing and recreation lobby has considerably more clout (and lawyers) than the irrigators so at least for now the battle is at a stalemate. The battle isn't OVER by any means--it's simply in remission until the irrigators make their next move. It's not a matter of "IF" the irrigators will make a move, simply a matter of "WHEN".
Warren Bridge is located in the head of the Green River Basin. Most of the contributing tributaries to The Green River are above Warren Bridge. It's an important location for monitoring the river.
The Green River Basin is one of Wyoming's principal basins.
